Using the location code scheme outlined below will help your store get the most out of Mango. The scheme is derived from Ace's best practices and is the most commonly employed code scheme in stores. For more information see Acenet -> Ace Way of Retailing (make sure you're logged into Acenet). Your Eagle system can use up to 6 location codes for each SKU, and each location code can have up to 5 characters.
Recommended Location Code Usage | ||
---|---|---|
Location | Definition | Example |
Location 1 | SKU's primary sales floor location | 05R16 (primary) |
Location 2 |
SKU's secondary sales floor location (if it has one) |
13L02 (secondary location) |
Location 3 | SKU's sales floor shelf capacity | 12 (the number of units in both locations that fit on the sales floor. In this example, each location can hold 6). |
Location 4 | SKU's back stock location | TOP05 (the SKU's back stock location is on the top shelf in aisle 5, for example). |
Utilizing this scheme, you will get the most out of Mango's location-driven reports, including its Back Stock Replenishment system, and multi-location SKU maintenance reports.

Location consists of a five-character identifier. The first two characters of the location code (for regular floor merchandise) will start with the SKU's aisle number, make sure aisle 1 - 9 are preceded with a 0 so they sort properly. For example, aisle 1 should be entered as 01 and aisle 2 will be 02, and so on up until aisle 09. After the aisle number is a left-side, right-side or wall indicator (L, R, W). Then after this indicator is the four-foot section number, typically starting at the aisle with 01 then working towards the wall sequentially.
AAXSS: AA = Aisle#, X is R for Right, L for Left, W for Wall, SS is 4-section number (01, 02, 03...sequential 4-foot sections). Example: 09R10 means the ninth aisle, right-hand side, tenth four-foot section in.
STORE: Store Use.
9SERV: Service counter area.
9OSDE: Outside Inventory.
9CASH: Check Out Areas
XXEND: Permanent End Caps: Aisle Number + END. Example 09END.
9FLOR: Center of the store floor.
DNRSP: These are SKUs set aside for ecommerce service charges such as grill assembly and delivery.
RENT: Rental SKUs.
PRXX: In/Out promo, XX is the year of the in/out promo. Example: PR24 is an in/out promotion in 2024.
SPXX: Special Orders or one-time buys where XX is the year. Example PR24.
DRXX: Closed-out or Dropped Items, XX is the year. Example: DR24 means Dropped in the year 2024.
XMA: Christmas items. XMA then the year of the product. XMA1 for a Christmas item displayed in 2024
NEW: The code automatically assigned to newly added SKUs (controlled by Eagle's MCL Default Location setting for each class, store specific).

If you sell merchandise in multiple locations in your store then those SKUs need a secondary location. For example, if you sell your Post Levels in your tool aisle and also with your mailbox posts (not a bad idea) then enter the location of your mailbox posts in Location 2 (click on the Location hyperlink in the Stocking tab of Inventory Maintenance).
Using multiple locations has multiple benefits- They print on your Mango Count Sheets underneath the SKU's primary location!
- They can print on your bin tags (see Printing Bin Labels).
- Your Mango Shrink Report will show "Multi+" in the Research Reason column indicating a possible incorrect count due to the SKU being merchandised in multiple locations.
- You can use a viewer to see all your SKUs in multiple locations by viewing and filtering on Location 2.
- *You can see them in PIP for variance research (we are currently working with Epicor to make this work).
- Items will be included in Mango's Closeout Management process by following these guidelines:
- MDR and the year closed out (MDR24).
- Store Closeout = Y (Codes tab of Inventory Maintenance)
Steps to add a secondary location
- Click on the blue underlined "Location" text in Inventory Maintenance to display the SKU's Location Maintenance window.
- Enter the secondary location.
- You can also set the number of bin labels to print in the Codes tab (second column, lower) so that multiple bin labels will print for price changes, etc.
- Use the shelf location of the closest related product for the SKU's secondary location.
- Do not use "C" to in center location position to indicate clip strip (a previous best practice).*
- Update # of Bin Labels to the number of total facing throughout the multiple locations. This helps ensure all facing are updated when pricing changes.
- If a SKU has more than one secondary location, skip Location 3 (that is reserved for something else, see next section) and use Location 4, etc.
The example above shows a post level with a primary location of 11R12 (tool aisle in this store) which also sells in a secondary location next to the mailbox posts (06L05 in this store).
*The previous best practice of entering a "C" in the center position to indicate a clip strip location has been depreciated. The best way to locate a clip strip is to use the location of the related product. This way we can analyze which SKUs sell best with which related product and make a recommended secondary location report for your store.

Using Location 3 to Indicate Shelf Capacity
Location 3 holds the number of units that fit on your sales floor (shelf or peg hook, including secondary locations).Count Sheets will show a
for SKUs where the quantity-on-hand (at month end) was greater than the shelf capacity (Location 3). This helps prompt your counters to look in back stock for additional quantities when processing Mango's Count Sheets.
Location 3 Benefits
- Shrink Report shows BS+ in the Research Reason column indicating a possible incorrect count to a SKU in a back stock position (a common occurrence).
- Simple back room replenishment: QOH - Loc 3 = amount to keep in back stock, all else can fit on sales floor.
- You can see Loc3 in PIP for variance research.
- Daily Back Stock Replenishment Reports.
-
If you can fit 12 cans of spray paint on your shelf then enter 12 in Location 3 (click on Location in Inventory Maintenance to bring up the Location Code Maintenance window).
- If Qty On Hand is 20 then Mango's Count Sheet will show a
indicating more to count in back stock.
- The Shelf quantity printed on the bin tag indicates a SKU with possible back stock which is helpful for department maintenance and customer service.
- If Qty On Hand is 20 then Mango's Count Sheet will show a
